This beautiful structure is the Taj Mahal. And the love story behind it is just as beautiful.
The Taj Mahal stands in Agra, in northern India. Shah Jahan was emperor of this part of India from 1627 to 1658. His wife and queen was Mumtaz Mahal.
The tow were very much in love. But Mumtaz died while giving birth to their 14th child. As she was dying, she asked Jahan to build a lasting tomb in memory of their love.
Jahan ordered workers to carry out her wish. About 20,000 workers built the Taj Mahal over more than 20 years. Today both Jahan and Mumtaz are buried there.
